Doodle Books

I found this idea in one of my favorite books, 410 Practical Adaptations for Every Classroom. If you have students that need to doodle- yes, some kids need to doodle in order to be able to actually listen and process the information- then give them a doodle book. I made up labels to glue on a notebook. The notebook will be given to the student and is the only book he/she is allowed to doodle in! So many of my students used to use up all of their notebook paper with drawings and doodles. I might purchase those composition notebooks, get them cut in half (I guess the place to go is Office Max) and paste on the labels. I don't have my class list yet, but I probably will put in the student's name before printing them out, or I'll print off a set or two and write in the names, especially since I tend to get new students throughout the school year! Doodle Book Labels I got the clip art off of Microsoft Office and I had cute fonts, but google docs didn't show them. I had used Pea Kylie from Kevin and Amanda I hope you can use them and enjoy!

I have also created new labels using google docs-  click HERE to view or save and print!

July Currently and Other Thoughts

I've finally figured out how to link up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade for her July Currently! I've been busy setting up my new blog and learning how to create blog buttons, upload documents and the blog button! It is to get up to 102, with a real feel of about 110! I'm thankful that our power didn't go off with the storms last week or yesterday- so many people have been without power for days (and some for a week)! I'm getting busy also with a project for Monday Made It over at 4th Grade Frolics .
I love creating items to use in my classroom! Most of my items are for students with emotional and behavior disorders, but they would work with any student. I'll be posting later today with one idea and hopefully downloadable freebie! Keep your fingers crossed! My favorite read aloud book in the classroom is Because of Winn-Dixie- it was hard to choose- I love reading aloud to my class. I read chapter books as well as picture books. So many of my students have never had anyone read to them, so even when I read a picture book and they complain that they are babies, when I start reading they are into the book! In Winn-Dixie we laugh and hide our tears from each other throughout the book! My professional go to book was also hard to pick, there are so many good books out there, but I heard the author of 401 Practical Adaptations for Every Classroom, Beverly Holden Johns talk at a recent conference and she had so many great ideas that I bought this book right away! It has a lot of great, easy, and inexpensive ideas that anyone can use in the classroom- especially for those students that have trouble completing work or sitting still! I'll be sharing some of my ideas and ways that I've helped my students stay on task and not disrupt others in the future. I guess I'd better get busy, I need to eat lunch, shower, and start on my downloads! Thanks for reading! Stay cool!

Monday Made it! Yes, I know it's Tuesday!

After stalkng following Tara's blog for the past few weeks, I decided to be brave and join the blogging community! I am so excited to be joining in the fun! I hope I do it right! I have so many great ideas for projects and have completed some of them! So far this summer, I have made the report cover dry erase sheets- using duct tape and report covers, a teacher binder, the toolbox organizer, and modpodge scrapbook paper covered letters for "Read." I'm not sure where my toolbox organizer pic went- it was in my camera and now it's gone! I've gotten all of the ideas from past Monday Made it weeks. Thank you everyone for such great ideas!

I can't wait for next week- I actually have an idea that I haven't seen anywhere else- even on pinterest!!

Starting out!

I'm jumping on the blog wagon! My goal is to share ideas and thoughts with other teachers out in the field! I have been a teacher for over 20 years! Somedays I still feel like a first year teacher! I have been in a specialized (love this term, instead of separate! Thanks to Beverly Johns!) facility teaching students with emotional and behavioral disorders for the past 16 years. I love it- never a dull moment!! This year I have moved down a classroom to teach younger students in 4th and 5th grades.
